Programme of Meetings 2021-2022 season
Meetings are held weekly on Friday evenings at 8:00pm, either at St John's Hall, Churchfields, Hertford SG13 8AF (near All Saints Church: approach from London Road), or online.

lecture A Tale of Two Bears Robin Claydon DPAGB ARPS BPE3* Robin retraces the footsteps of his journeys to two very different wild environments to photograph two different bears. First the Polar Bears in Churchill, Canada, a harsh habitat where they gather on the shore of Hudson bay to hunt for seals. Then the Alaskan Brown Bears that spend just a few months in Silver Salmon Creek in Alaska, to feed on migrating salmon to provide nourishment for their cubs. d |

lecture 100 Strangers Steve Myall EFIAP BPE4* Steve will give us an insight into his ‘100 Strangers’ project to take portraits of 100 unknown people, including the idea behind it, how he chooses his subjects, and his approach to asking them to pose for him. It's street photography with permission! He is now working on his third set of 100 Strangers. With plenty of tips on how to approach people and the camera techniques to use. |

lecture A Grand Tour The story of a five-week journey by train through Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland, visiting towns and cities with classical music connections, including Salzburg and Vienna, Prague and Leipzig. In this copiously illustrated presentation John will show and talk about the highlights of the trip, both musical and otherwise, plus some of the practical issues of photo-touring. d |

lecture Closeup and Macro Flower Photography programme change Ken Payne Ken will discuss his techniques for close-up flower photography, from simple interior and exterior camera setups through to image processing and the use of focus stacking. He will also talk about framing, composition and choice of shooting angle, and the importance of not always going for the obvious shot. |

lecture There Be Dragons Mark and Judy Buckley-Sharp A documentary on the geography, history, culture and language of Turkey. Mark and Judy take a series of topics based on their extensive research and illustrate them using photographs taken across many visits. In Part 2 they tour the Bosphorus: up and down and side to side to the various villages. |

The Elsden Trophy: a review of the club’s images Cllr Peter Ruffles MBE Peter will review the club’s historic entries to the Elsden Trophy competition in the context of the 100-year-old record of Hertford by Arthur Elsden and his son, photographers in Hertford between 1859 and 1926. Some 250 of their glass slides were given to the Club early in its life for safe keeping, and are now held in the County Archive. |

With images from the Peak District, Snowdonia, Scotland and further afield, his talk discusses how photographers can best capture and present the character of the light. |

lecture Architecture: Exposure to Edit Richard O'Brien What to look for when shooting both internal and external architecture. Richard will start by talking about the gear he uses and why he uses it, then cover some simple tricks he uses to help him ‘get the shot’ especially in crowded locations. In the second half of the talk he will do a live demonstration of editing some of the images using a combination of Lightroom Classic and Photoshop CC, with questions welcome. |
